An Inner West sporting institution, the Pirates have been storming the harbours of local rugby since 1900 in pursuit of the Shute Shield, a semi-professional rugby union competition and the premier club competition of its kind in NSW. Over the decades, the team has produced a bunch of players who’ve gone on to represent NSW and Australia, with almost 50 donning the Wallabies green and gold.
This year they take the field at Drummoyne Oval while a new state-of-the-art stadium is built at Concord Oval, and look set to be fiercer out there than ever. For those unable to get down to the ground themselves, the games will be featured on Stan as part of their new Sports package, which goes live from February 19 and is being touted as ‘the new home of rugby’ (sidenote: 30-day free trials are available for those who just want a taste).
But naturally, nothing beats being there in person. That’s why every home game, we’ll be there for the Pirates, with a dedicated Tinny Bar serving up great local beers from Akasha’s temple of hop – as well as exclusive merch you won’t be able to find anywhere else!
Then, after each game, we’re inviting people to kick on at our Five Dock Taproom to raise a glass to the team. What better way is there to spend your weekend, seriously?
